Caroline flew into Burbank, California, today, so we can go to Disneyland on Christmas Eve and take a short vacation up the coast; that is, if my uncle remains stable. Maybe you wonder, how do I know if this is Caroline’s plane? Well, it’s not; she landed at night, came in on a jet, and flew SouthWest, but as I didn’t have a photo for the day, I had to take this one and shove it in here to fill the gap, and anyway, it conveys the idea it was intended for.
Sunrise at Isla Vista, California
I took Sophie, my uncle’s German Shepherd, for a walk along the coast at daybreak today. This view east into the sun is at Isla Vista in Santa Barbara, near the university campus.
Barbershop Cleanup
It’s been 11 days since my uncle Woody had open heart surgery, and it was finally time to get out of the house for some extra exercise by going to the barbershop for a trim. Tomorrow, we have a doctor’s appointment where we will see his primary care doctor, get x-rays of his lungs to check for continuing pleurisy, and see a pulmonologist.
High Surf
A storm originating near Hawaii kicks up the surf along the California coast. Spectators and hundreds of surfers converged on the coast to either witness or take their chances out on the waters, where waves three to four times larger than normal pummel the shore.
Avocado
Hanging from its tree, this avocado basks in the sun, waiting for my hand to snatch it for eating later. Avocado trees are all over Santa Barbara. Years ago, wild walnut trees were there as well; they are almost all gone now, but the avocado thrives, as does citrus.
Seagull
This is a cheat and has been taken on one of the days I could get out to take some photos, but what the heck, it’s about the coast, and that’s where I’m at. Only, I don’t see the ocean on a daily basis, and do you really want to see the open-heart zipper scar my uncle has running down the middle of his chest? Yep, I’m still in Santa Barbara and will remain through Christmas.
