Relic

Closed Walmart store in Phoenix, Arizona

The soon-to-be rotting shell of a closed Walmart is now a relic of the first wave of the big box store’s expansion. Down the street is the mega-corporations next generation of behemoth in the form of a Super Center. With our pandering to the lowest common denominator of bargain hunting consumer, we remove the middle class from participating in acquiring and using quality products in exchange for abundance. And for those of us who have a hankering for the nostalgic quality of a generation ago, we are forced into upscale malls, Whole Foods, Sur La Table, online and mail order in order to find products that distinguish themselves with durability, value, and quality.

  1. John you’re an idiot.

If you think theres some pent up middle class demand that isn’t being met then open a store to meet it.

  2. Anonymous Bigger-Idiot-Than-Me,

Not only are you a coward in your anonymity but you too are an idiot. Who suggested pent up demand? I stated that in comparison to previous generations who had the purchasing power to buy quality items, the current ‘middle class’ has exchanged quality for abundance – that’s it. So although I may indeed have idiotic tendencies, you are obviously quite unhappy about your sad existence that you find visiting non-sensical blogs to barf out your invective name calling in a futile attempt to demean someone as being gratifying. What are you, sick and demented, friends with Bill O’Reilly, or some kind of right wing zealot with relationship problems?
